Chicken Bones for Peace

A lawmaker who proposed exhuming the remains of U.S. servicemen buried in France has received a smelly package of chicken bones in the mail.

Because of France's lack of support for the war in Iraq, U.S. Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite of Florida proposed that the remains of American soldiers buried in France and Belgium should be exhumed and returned to the United States. The "Bones for Peace" campaign by the German magazine Titanic encouraged its readers to mail bones to Brown-Waite in response to her proposal.

Why the readers choose to send the bones of chickens remains a mystery.
